Very interesting exploration of use of AI Agents acting on eGov Services 💡

As a Digital Transformation Strategist and GovStack ambassador, I'm always looking forward helping my governement to building future proof and this can't be anymore only about forms and workflows…

Back in 2023, we (ID30) worked with Agence Togo Digital on scaling and acceleration of their digital transfomation and we came with the concept of digitalization levels (See 👉 https://lnkd.in/dTF8TJAZ), already envisioning the AUTOMATION upper level allowing seamless access to services and proactive government (#KnowYourCitizens), now it materializes ✨

Today my personal AI agent had a “conversation” with a government system — and it quietly showed me what the next decade of public digital services will look like.
I connected my own AI agent to Estonia’s state-supported accounting platform and let it handle the boring stuff: reading purchase invoices, extracting data, and submitting them directly to the accounting system. Later, I trained another agent to prepare a Statistics Estonia report from the same accounting data.
No insider access. No special integrations. Just public APIs that were already there.
That’s when it clicked: the future of e-government isn’t only about smarter portals or chatbots. It’s about AI agents becoming the primary users of government services. Citizens will increasingly delegate bureaucracy to their digital counterparts — if governments are ready.
This “Agentic State” needs three things:
1. Every service available via secure, citizen-facing APIs
2. Clear, machine-readable instructions and metadata
3. Robust authentication and authorization for personal agents
Once that exists, innovation will not come from new portals, but from what citizens and their AI agents build on top of open public infrastructure.
